Professional Active Studio Monitor or PA Speaker Switcher
Most professional audio retail stores feature demo rooms stocked with multiple Active PA speakers plus Active Studio Monitors from different brands for their customers to audition. Guitar Center was looking for a way to streamline the customer experience so 2JW Design was contracted to design and build a switcher that would improve both the stores use of stock equipment and also the customer demo experience.
Flexible - a single SS16HD switcher will allow the stores to demonstrate up to 16 pairs of speakers, or combinations of PA top boxes and subs being fed by a single stereo source. The switcher features both rear panel input connections plus a front panel 1/8th inch input so that customers can easily audition tracks off mobile devices such as iPhone/iPod – the system is smart enough to automatically mute the rear panel inputs when a device is connected to the front panel allowing for a smooth demo experience when the unit is placed in a rack.
Control – the SS16HD features a powerful output trim capability that allows for balancing between speaker pairs right from the unit. Simply hold down the speaker selector switch for the output you wish to trim for 3 seconds and the display will flash – indicating you are now in trim mode allowing for the output pair to be adjusted +/- 10dB via the front panel volume knob. This setting is stored so each time the unit is powered on, it will be set exactly as you need it. The front panel master volume control allows for simple setup with any stereo sound source – a simple push on the volume knob mutes the system.
Quality – the SS16HD features extremely high quality components throughout the audio signal path to ensure utmost purity whilst also allowing for digital switching, output trimming and master volume control.
